Learning to enjoy the little things.

Season 2 of Drag Race UK comes out this week and it’s actually making me a tad emotional. It’s something I’ve been waiting for and looking forward to, almost like a light at the end of the tunnel.
I started to think about why I’m pinning so much happiness on a TV show and actually it makes complete sense.
Usually I’d be looking forward to a gig, a night out, a holiday… but in the past year we’ve learnt that those types of plans can fall through very easily.
And yes while I could be focusing on writing more or fitness or learning a language, I don’t think putting all my excitement on a TV show is a bad thing.
Firstly, there is something about the drag community that warms my heart, and has seen me through some of my worst days.
But secondly, in our COVID-world, I think we need a new appreciation for the little things that we enjoy. Stop calling them “guilty pleasures” and look at them as they are, the things that give you joy.
So, listen to all the cheesy music you want, re-watch your favourite film for the 100th time and look forward to baking banana bread again.
In the past year we’ve seen how life can change in the blink of an eye, so stop restraining yourself and drag out the excitement, no matter how small it is.
